We made this quick guide to ensure you order the perfect fit for your furry friend.

  1. Stand behind your dog, and make sure they are standing.
  2. Measure the circumference of the upperthigh with a tape measure. (see imagebelow)

Important notes.

  • If you are in-between sizes, go for a smaller size
  • If you don't have a tape measure, you can use a string and then a ruler to determine the length.
  • Because the brace is made of a stretchy neoprene, your measurement should be a SNUG fit, rather than a loose fit

An Alternative Path to Knee Support

For dogs with ACL or CCL injuries, knee instability, or reduced mobility, a dog knee brace can provide additional stability and support during everyday movement. Many owners use canine knee braces as part of a conservative, non-surgical approach to supporting the knee, especially when surgery is not the preferred option.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which brace is right for my dog?

The right brace depends on the affected joint, whether one or both sides need support, your dog’s measurements, and the level of stability required. Our Knee, Hinged Knee, Double Knee, Hip, Hock, Elbow, and Carpal braces are designed for different joints and support needs.

How do I choose the correct size?

Each product page includes a sizing guide showing where and how to measure your dog. Measure your dog while standing naturally and compare the measurements with the product’s size chart. Do not select a size based only on your dog’s weight or breed, as dogs of the same weight can have very different leg measurements. Our measurement videos take less than 60 seconds. We offer 1x Free Exchange, and 92% of our customers get the sizing right on the first try!

What happens if I order the wrong size?

All braces include one free size exchange per order. Contact our support team with your order number, measurements, and (if requested) photographs or a side-view video, and we will send you a free replacement brace to make sure your dog gets the perfect fit.

Can my dog walk while wearing the brace?

Yes. TailwindPets braces are designed to provide external support during controlled movement, including leash walks and veterinarian-approved rehabilitation exercises. Introduce the brace gradually and supervise your dog during use. Avoid unrestricted running, jumping, rough play, and difficult stairs unless your veterinarian has approved those activities.

Can a Tailwindpets dog knee brace help a dog with an ACL or CCLinjury?

Yes, a properly fitted knee brace provides additional external stability around the canine knee joint and helps support controlled movement in dogs with cruciate ligament-related mobility problems. 'ACL' is the term many owners use, while the equivalent ligament in dogs is the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). Many owners consider bracing when they prefer a non-invasive support option, particularly for older dogs or dogs for whom surgery is not medically appropriate. Veterinary assessment is recommended for any suspected cruciate injury.

Is a dog knee brace an alternative to surgery?

A brace can be a non-invasive support option for some dogs. The appropriate treatment depends on whether the injury is partial or complete, the stability of the knee, possible meniscal damage, your dog’s age, weight, health, and activity level. Some owners use a brace because surgery is not preferred or their dog is not a suitable surgical candidate. A veterinarian should determine which approach is appropriate.

What is the difference between the Single, Hinged, and DoubleKnee Brace?

The Single Knee Brace provides flexible everyday support for one rear knee. The Hinged Knee Brace adds structured lateral support and is selected when a higher level of stabilization is required for one knee. The Double Knee Brace supports both rear knees and distributes support across both sides, commonly selected when both knees require support or when bilateral stability is preferred.

How quickly will my order ship?

We offer Next Day Delivery in the US. In-stock standard-size products are processed as quickly as possible. Hinged braces and custom-made products may require approximately 1–2 business days of preparation/production time before shipment. Available delivery methods and estimated transit times are shown during checkout, and tracking information is sent once handed to the carrier.

What is the return and exchange policy?

Products may be returned within 30 days of receiving them when they meet the conditions in our Return Policy. Custom-made products and hinge inserts are made 1:1 for your dog and are subject to separate restrictions. That is why we offer One Free Size Exchange on all braces.

Are TailwindPets braces designed with veterinary or orthopedic expertise?

TailwindPets braces are developed with a focus on canine anatomy, joint positioning, stability, adjustability, and controlled mobility. Product development is informed by our 75 years of orthopedic experience and feedback from multiple veterinary and animal-care professionals from VET-MED Universities.
